I received a copy of this bizarre piece of film 32 years ago from a Beatle-collector friend. There is no backstory or anything i can gather from the web. Evidently the concert started and shortly a riot ensued. As the Beatle were being led back into the trailer behind the stage, someone slugs John Lennon! Brian is seen pulling each one of the boys into the safety of the trailer but it is obvious someone backstage had it in for John. I have been lucky enough to have known George and Paul and asked each of them about the incident and, while they both remembered the show, they do not remember the assault on John. I am sure there are many more stalwart Beatle fans out there who can fill me in on details....please!

  • The video is from Cleveland, the audio is from Houston. Not sure why it was mashed up this way but it was done a long time ago! The most amazing thing is the video portion.

  • Glad you like! I have treasured this clip for over 30 years and happy to share it with Beatle fans. I just wish I could learn the background about the slugging but no one seems to know. It is obvious what is happening.

  • I am not sure if the person who put the clips together used the actual soundtrack from the show. Seems to me I remember someone telling me the audio is actually from Houston. I asked George about this clip and, needless to say, he had no recollection. You can distinctively see some jerk slugging John as he races into the trailer before Brian pulls him in.

  • Wonderful video! This is definitely Cleveland, Aug. 14, 1966-- I was at this concert. The Beatles opened with Rock and Roll music, I can't remember the 2nd song, but the 3rd was Day Tripper ... and during that song it seemed like the entire audience in the stadium lower level jumped up and rushed onto the field (including me!). WIXY 1260 was definitely a Cleveland radio station that was dominant in the summer of 1966. Wonderful to see this again!!

  • Beatle tickets on sale. $3

  • @dan4456 WIXY 1260. Wasn't that a Cleveland radio station.

  • This is Houston at the SAM HOUSTON COLLOSEUM, 1966! Whatever this is very rare !

  • Paul is singing the outtake version of Sh'es A Woman ! Wow ! This should be in the Museum !
