10 points for at least attempting a British accent other than the standard US audience friendly 'posh English' and 'Cockney'. I see you've been closely studying our lesser known Northern brogues like Geordie - very impressive, sir.
(2) Many of the events in the film are reminiscent of specific real life characters, but also real life charges about what led to the war. The spin, the re-written report, the last minute engineering to suppress threats of resignation, the attitude of on both sides of the Atlantic, the miscommunication: all of these are direct comment.
I'm not taking the 'dumb American' route, but I do wonder if a) the language and more importantly b) the lack of public insight in America would make it more difficult to appreciate this film.
The dialogue in the movie is incredible, but it doesn't help when a lot of it is Anglo-centric. But the fact that the UK public would be more familiar in general with events and questions surrounding the run up to the war makes me wonder if Americans don't appreciate how much satire is really included.
5 stars for pronouncing fockin in such a cool manner. Haven´t seen this movie yet. Sounds interresting and I understand your argument on american vs brittish humor. Western part of the world don´t really understand the japanese humor either, wich i think is hillarious from time to time.
only kidding. fair enough. my friends hated it -- i figured it was just a "girl" thing; not a movie girls were going to naturally like. but you've proved me wrong. and, yeah, people are going to be tempted to put this in a dumb-american-doesn't-get-british-humour context but in the loop is one of the absolute least quintessentially-british british comedies i've seen... really nothing subtle or dry about it.
