This demonstration uses a tube with two open ends to create standing waves inside the tube, which in turn creates a tone. The yellow tube is a toy version and the black tube is corrugated pipe. When the toy is spun the air moving past it on the outside creates a resonance vibration inside the tube [much like blowing across the top of a pop bottle]. These vibrations are restricted to specific wavelenghts [which genearates tones at specific frequencies], faster or slower rotations produce no sound or sounds up or down an octave. The wavelenghts of the notes are related to the length of the tube.
