There is a version of this without the violins. Just Nick Drake and his guitar..It's on 'Made to love Magic' released in 2004. I'm not sure which version I prefer - it's an amazing song anyway. He was very young when he wrote it and it's a sort of 'mature' song for a young man to write...

Forgot to say....somebody should do a remix of this with 'Summertime' (no funky versions please) All those Minor/ Major keys together...could be amazing

Cool. I'll check it out.  I like the violin part, like I said. It adds to the tone of the song. My beef is that it radically changes tone in a couple of places.

It is a great song, and I'm very impressed with Nick Drake. 'Time Has Told Me', 'Pink Moon' and 'The Cello Song' are great, too.

thats kind of the point of composition to develop themes, explore motifs, create then solve tension etc. if it didn't change the tune would be a little flat. i think its a perfect instrumental, most quality musician would agree with me
