This one is a little different. I had a specific request to demonstrate the easiest way to give a pill to a cat. In this case I have a needless syringe, used for giving cats liquid medicine, in my pocket. Ukee is cradled like a baby, holding the scruff of her neck and the syringe is applied in the crux of her jaw. The same position works for giving a pill, put your finger and thumb with the pill well back in to their mouth, she'll gag a bit, and then hold her mouth closed for a few seconds.

  • It helps if your cat has some years of building trust. She knows I have never done anything bad to her, so she is pretty easy. Our younger cat at 1.5, is a bit more sqirmy, but this position with a tighter grip on the scruff of her neck still gives you lost of advantage.

  • kl im geussing begal cats are from bengal am i right?

  • Sort of. Bengal cats are breed all around the world from tabbies, and a wild cat from India called and "Asian Leopard Cat", which is a small wild cat like an Ocelot.

  • thanks for the video ! how did you make her learn how to stand on your shoulder, that was so cute. Wendy

  • Ukee and other Bengals I know just wanted to be on shoulders (see 20 Bengal cat games). Our second cat Koru had to learn this from Ukee (see 20 More Bengal cat games).

It is a measure of cat intelligence if they can stratagize a series of steps to get to a goal. For Ukee she will stand on a chair or sofa on one side of the room, call for me, jump up on me, then "steer" me by leaning or crying toward a high shelf, and then jump up. To get down she calls for me even if I am out of the room.

  • i have a kitten and i named him Sexy Beast Ninja Kitty cuz i think his markings make him so sexy lol and my nephew can never find him then bam he is there so thats the ninja part

  • have a glass of water when you give a cat tablets. after its in their mouth, gently hold the mouth closed and wet there lips with water, this tricks them into swallowing. we tried it without water first and the cat just spat them back out. it really is a 2 person job. its tricky trying to hold the cat still, open its mouth and throw in the tablet with only 2 arms.

  • cats are very intelligent...way more than what people tend to think

  • I hope I´ll get my cats used to it. I gave one of them her pill, today and it worked, and she didn´t fight. She looked a bit angry and confused, but it was no problem. It was the first time she ever had to eat a pill, but she seemed to accept it. I think it might be more complicated to give the kitten pills, she´s more energetic and doesn´t like to do as I tell her...

  • I've been lucky enough not to have pilled a Bengal (but did have to do liquid shooter stuff). However, my DSH has glaucoma, and she has to get 1/4 of a pill 2X a day. Greenies pill pockets has saved my life. I don't know how it would be with a full pill though.

  • wow your cats are really smart. I have a snowshoe kitten and a Bengal cat.

  • I have to give my cat a pill everyday (his heart) and he is used to it now (hes 14), i do is just before feeding and i have no problems and he doesnt mind either, hes used to it.

  • If you really want a method that works. Grab your cats head from behind. place your thumb and 1st finger in the side of the mouth behind the kindlaks teeths. Force the mouth open this way and abortion the pill into the back of the tongue. Release your cat and I promise you that it swallow without really having discovered what it was. perhaps a little shaking of the head. The secret here is speed. quickly and decisively. I have even used it on very agresive cats. It works.
