@troberts0034 im a cummins guy and not a huge fan of detroits, but hell yeah i like their sound.
-
im a john deere, dodge cummins, and jeep fan, but i love the sound of that ole detroit.

@troberts0034 They are Not Supercharged...they are naturally aspirated...there is No Intake stoke to draw air into the cylinders, so an external air pump (roots blowers, are just that...air pumps..they do NOT compress air and make Boost) is necessary to provide air for both, burning the fuel AND scavenging the cylinders of spent gasses. Starting with the 8V71 in the mid 70's, DD began adding a turbo in tandem with the Roots...and with that, the 8v71 was rated @ 350hp @2100rpms for Hywy trucks.

@troberts0034 Detroit is STILL manufacturing 2 cycle's....the 6V53, 8V71 and 8V92's....but only for Military apps.
These are NOT remans I'm talking about...I'm saying Brand New....though they are remaning engines in all Four
Series.

@farmerallis The 1950T didn't have a Detroit. It had a turbocharged 310 Waukesha. The 1900 & 1950 had the 4-53 Detroit.

@troberts0034 There's a few of them. The 1950T was pretty popular.
Detroits are supercharged, 2 cycle diesels. It's what gives them the unique sound. Gotta love GM engineering!!!
