Ah, I've been looking for this game forever. At first I wasn't sure this was it, but when I saw the picture dusting, the memories came rushing back!

there are different ways and kinds of assistance tools. it is nothing less then a lil' help like a pen and paper, emulator slowdown, savestates etc.

In your emulator, did you push 1, or 2, or 3 to hide the layers?

Removing the layers didn't help me with the puzzle it removed the dust AND the picture underneath. So I had to guess, load, guess, load, guess... until I got it right.
