im getting 44c idle and 75c max (overclocked) in an acer oem case (which has no front intake!)

@Baruvan Correction Accelero S1 Rev2 not S2.

Ive done this a long time ago but I should point it out. I used some arctic silver thermal paste and applied it to the GPU after i wiped the stock paste clean with alchohol. After I applied it, I carefully installed an Accelero S2 to my Raedon 4850 and inspected it thoroughly afterwards. I then added it to the computer and for some odd reason, the cards idle temp shot through the roof and I then declaired it a dead card. No idea what went wrong.

@mariushmedias thanks for the reply man you're awesome. well i tried playing with it some more and it was getting to 100 degrees so i took it off and reinstalled it using all your steps and using some store bought thermal paste. its running around 40c idle and when playing games between 50 and 70. alot better then it was before, still wish it was cooler though. i put a slot fan below it blowing toward the accelero but im not sure if its helping. and it is super quiet so that rocks lol.

just bought this. got a 3870 and damn is it loud. i'll be using this vid as reference for how to do this right, seems pretty complicated. thanks for the vid

Thanks for your comment. Helped alot.
i just installed this and it's been in my comp for a few minutes and the temp is at 50c. i've read about alot of people getting their temps in the 30s so i'm wondering whats wrong with mine.l does it take time for it to start working? also is anything supposed to be plugged into the accelero? i dont see how it is working if it's not plugged into anything. thanks for any tips.

@bubblt You probably have a smaller case, or the cables in the case block airflow. The heatsink needs to get some air moving over it and this usually happens by itself when the power supply pulls air from the case and ejects it outside and so on but if your system is too crowded or the airflow is blocked by stuff then the heatsink cant go as low as 30-35C - on my PC it's 35C. Anyway, 50C is still OK, as the cards are designed to run at about 80C constantly (card doesnt spin fan faster before)

Do you absolutely have to have heatsinks (the zerotherm)? I live in Germany and I only ordered some Arctic Silver 5 and the Accelero S1 R2 for my Diamond Raedon 4850. I dont have the luxury of just heading over to my nearest computer store and picking the heatsinks up. Would it be possible to use something else or at all, or do I have to buy heatsinks?

@Baruvan well for the design of my card there were not enough heatsinks coming in the package. there are 8 for 8 memory modules and 2 rectangular ones for voltage regulator but the standard design has two big chips for voltage and 8 smaller ones a bit further away (see vid). The rectangular ones wouldn't have covered the whole surface of those two bigger chips and the eight small chips would have been uncovered so I ordered a heatsink pack. doesn't have to be zerotherm though, any kit would do.

@Baruvan you can actually get away without buying additional heatsinks if you cut the original big heatsink just where the fan ends - that smaller copper square with bumps on it covers the whole voltage regulator section and it's big enough to dissipate the heat. That smaller piece can be connected on my card with two screws on the other side easily.
Read the notes that go over the video - you'll see other reasons why i recommend a heatsink set - you can order from sites like ebuyer com

Do you need to put thermal paste between the gpu and the accelero? Thanks in advance

@666HAL666 accelero heatsink comes with thermal paste already applied. That's why I'm removing the original thermal paste from the chip.
You always need to have a thermal solution between a processor/chip and the metal heatsink.
The thermal paste on the heatsink is good enough but you can replace it if you want to with another paste, it's up to you.
