@imthenervouswreckful Well what usually happens when you do that (I've tried both ways with a les paul) is that it doesn't really go in a circle but more like a swing where it's going rather slow at the top. It works and it's easier, but it doesn't look as powerful as the other way around. =)

@imthenervouswreckful That's doesn't look as cool imo, and it's alot heavier on your strap, especially with a heavy guitar like a les paul.
