Unique not only in Alexandria but also in the entire region, Bach Vespers at Westminster realize the principles of "Orthopraxis," a translation of the ancient into the post-modern world, a return of Classical Christianity, and an exploration of the inceptive tradition of the faith (mystery, community, symbolism).
Orthopraxis rejects the status quo of music as a mere embellishment or edification to worship; instead, music is restored to the rightful place as a language of worship in which we speak to God and of God. Music is worship.
A worshiper will also encounter rites and elements that go back as far as 1500 years -- cantor-led singing and ancient hymns, scripture recitation and congregational chanting, candles as symbols of faith and belonging to God's divine light, and incense as a continuous tangible prayer and offering to God.
In the course of a two-year cycle of 34 evening services, Paul Stetsenko, the organist at Westminster, plays the complete organ works of J. S. Bach.
