I am done cleaning up and messing with the zenith radio. I didn't really have to do anything to it but clean it. It still works. All the tubes are good, tunes fine now and sounds great. For a 60 some years old radio, it sure is in fine shape. Thank you Dad for passing it down to me!
If you run over to my blog: www.edwardkarn.com - this is a short post about the radio and the schematics in bmp format.
Oh Yes; Next week-end, rain or shine we are starting the boat. If is raining, or looks like rain, we do it in the basement, if the forecast says sunny all weekend, we do it outside.

I HAVE A RADIO JUST LIKE THIS! But its a world radio with a 5' antenna. It used to work when I was a kid. But it went silent a good while ago. But I have the radio and it is in very good shape. And I saw the radio in the Smithsonian about 12 years ago. I will try to make a video response for you.

I strongly urge you to replace the paper caps, the electrolytics and the selenium rectifier in that set shortly. They're just little time bombs waiting to go flooey.

Just off the showroom floor...very good condition, these vintage radios have so much character and I don't know about in the states but down under a vintage radio like that in working condition is worth big $,.def. see if you can pick up some spare valves just in case one blows on you...that is one stylish radio compared to the modern day junk that last 13 months( 1 month after warranty expires) and then fails, plenty of life left in her yet...happy listening ;)

Im so happy for you. Dont ever let anyone buy that off you. Keep it safe and find out what its worth and add it to your 'Home and Contents Insurance'

The corporations realized that they can profit more by selling more "disposable" products in larger quantities than to keep selling low amounts of high quality merchandise, hence the term "disposable society".
I love that radio.
