Released in 2006 on Mush Records.

This Thavius 2nd album. He is a somewhat acclaimed produce / programmer. He's done songs with Mars Volta, Nas, Daedelus, K the I, Saul Williams and Nine Inch Nails.

The Good : Thru is an intelligent record. There's no references to bitches or gangsters here. The production is very clean and clear. The tracks with MC's are all right. Good music if your into cold, desolate sounding hip hop with a heavy dose of electronics. Plenty of synths and keyboards, reminiscent of Trent Reznors double instrumental album Ghosts.

The Bad : Not enough variety on here. Each song has the same theme and feel. Very sterile. No real build up or emotions here. After a while all the skittering beats and synth washes sound the same. nothing really sticks out as spectacular. Needed some variation to keep the listener hooked. Fairly bland and uneventful

In conclusion, Saul Williams completest have another song to throw on the pile. If your a fan of cold, unemotional electro hop, you might dig this. I found it kind of boring.

  • Mia Doi Todd's kind of cool. Liked her a lot on Dntel's "Life is Full of Possibilities."

Her solo albums kind of just sounds like music my mum would listen to. Not too bad though.

  • Yeah, I first of her on this dub compilation. Her track was pretty cool. I have one of her albums and it was pretty boring.

  • I honestly have never gotten too much into anything on Mush. I find their artists pretty boring. The only exception to that would be Pedro. I'd check him out. His latest album samples a lot of free jazz and makes beats out of it. Pretty nuts.

  • Free jazz., eh ?

That does sound kind of interesting.

  • i glanced at the title and thought for a second that you were reviewing a beck cd. haha that would be kind of funny. sounds kind of decent but i like really hard beats. my friends make fun of me sometimes. i like west coast beats like dj quik or some shit or beats like nas' "made you look" or like really grandiose beats. sometimes those can suck shit though. i don't know. i like good beats. or cheese beats like jay-z's "sunshine, because i don't think they're cheesy. nice review.

  • Yeah, I don't Thavius sounds anything like that west coast shit. Like, some of it sounded alright, but each track had an overdose of sameness.
