  • Before she became a movie star, Irene Dunne trained as an opera singer and sing onstage in many opera's and operetta's.

She later became a superb drama and comedic actress in her later films throughout the mid-thirties and forties, but she was rarely allowed to sing as she did in her earlier roles.

It was such a shame as she had a lovely voice. Another famour actress who sang beautifully was Norma Shearer-- listen to her singing in the 1933 version of The Barretts of Wimpole Street..

  • Thanks for your vaulable information ! I will definately look for The Barretts of Wimpole Street + _+ !

  • One of my top favorite scenes from movies..period. LOVE AFFAIR (1939) is top notch Hollywood and Irene Dunne and Charles Boyer are perfect. Maria Ouspenskaya played Nanou, Boyer's grandmother, with such charm and watching her play the piano, and hearing Irene sing PLAISIR D'AMOUR, was simply magical. Thank you for sharing this heartwarming moment on YOU TUBE!

  • What a captivating and memorable scene!

  • @ChristophePhilippe your comment basically says everything I wanted to. :) I don't like the remake, and this is one of my favourite movies. I love all the actors and just... how natural they all seem, unrehearsed, realistic.

  • "Love Affair" is one of the greatest movies--precisely because it's not saccharine--they're both worldly. But what really makes it great is that it tells its story naturally...unlike the Grant/Kerr remake, the original is not overly aware of itself. An Dunne--where else do we find an actress who was not sexless but who was also sophisticated and funny? Not so easily.

  • I love that small world .. yes , it is illusion , but it still touches the deepest feelings..

    Unforgettable.

  • "Gaslight" absolutely ruined Charles Boyer for me - I can't watch him in anything else without thinking he's playing a "bad guy." But, you can't help but fall in love with Irene Dunne in every movie she ever made...

  • Everytime I see her and listen her singing , I fall in some kind of love to Irene.

  • @tomkellycartoons LOVE AFFAIR is waaay better than Cary Grant's version, I used to love An Affair to Remember too but after watching LOVE AFFAIR, I just FORGOT about the remake.....IRENE WAS THE BEEESSSSTTT

  • One of the truly magical romantic scenes in film,

So full of joy, sadness, and love.

  • You have good taste in movies
