"We came ready to fight, I got caught with a headbutt in the first round and it was called by the ref as a headbutt but he did not stop the fight in the first round," he told Sky Box Office.

"I don't know why because the cut was as big before as it is now.

"If I'd have had both my eyes the fight wouldn't have ended this way. I couldn't see the guy from the first round, the blood was in my eye and I just couldn't see with it."

Barrera also scoffed at the power of Khan's punches.

And he says he only got caught when he knew the fight was going to be called off due to the cut, leaving him no option but to throw caution to the wind.

"I didn't even feel his punches," he said. "He's got fast hands but his punches did nothing to me, I didn't feel them.

"I just went a little crazy because I wanted to try to fight before they stopped it."

The defeat was the seventh of his 73-fight career and his third in the last five fights.

At 35, Barrera has been a professional for 19 years but did did not suggest he was ready to retire just yet.

"I am just going to talk to my family," he said/ I feel good tonight, it was just because of the cut that I lost.

"I'll discuss it with my family, discuss it with Don King Promotions and we'll take it from there. But I am goint to take a little break now.
