This was probably one of the best takeoffs I have ever experienced! Runway 28 in YUL is 7000ft long and the liftoff was made around 5000ft which was a fairly short takeoff roll given that the load factor was about 95%.

Flaps were set to 10 degrees on push back which seems to be a new operating rule for AA as I saw many 737's doing it in MIA.

N1 must have been set to 26k..never felt such a powerful roll.. the camera doesn't do justice. A few seconds after take off note the angle of attack...my average is about 18-20 degrees nose up.. quite an impressive takeoff roll!

  • ok but ANU is 9000ft.. SXM would be a far better comparison as its 7700ft long.. in any event my point was that it was def more poweful than any takeoff I have had.. even SXM

  • What is N1 and 25k mean. I'm a student pilot

  • American Airlines needs to use the 737-800s more than MD-80s

  • yea looks like flaps 5, takeoff flap settings in the 737-800 are 1,5, and 15. 10 can be, however I believe Boeing charges an arm and a leg for the performance data for flaps 10 takeoffs. I heard somewhere 25 is an approved setting too but im not positive.

  • hmmm, hard to tell, it looks like flaps 5 to me

  • usually when i ride in a plane and it gets of the ground i feel faint for 2 secs...

  • so wam.. u never takeoff out of antigua?.. lol.. what a description brettos.. haha
