  • John Carty is a truly amazing fiddle player, banjo player and flute player.

He would be an asset in any line up.

I have seen him solo on a number of occasions. I saw Frankie Gavin in the same week and much preferred Carty's fiddle playing.

I would rate Carty far higher than Kevin Burke too.

  • Carty certainly has an unpredictability that is rare among fiddlers. It was interesting to see him and Kevin playing beside each other, as their approach is completely different. Carty's banjo playing adds the most to Patrick Street, but I enjoy his solo fiddle albums immensely.

  • Thanks! Been looking for Patrick Street videos.

  • Glad you enjoyed, I've got a few more I'll put up.

  • Very nice! If you are a John Carty fan..... I just added a very nice lengthy Live video of John from an event this past summer. Shot in HIGH DEFINITION! Just do a search for John Carty at wheeler theatre.

  • Heh, I should have read down a couple of post :-)

  • Funny. 'cos I could swear that was Andy Irvine in the video... they must have found a look-alike :-P

  • You are right, although strictly the lady's name ought to be spelled "McLeod", but pronounced as you have it. The first tune (first 14 seconds of the clip) is "The Plough and Stars".

  • I do believe the tune is "Miss McCloud's Reel"...which in the world of Old Time music we know as "Hop High Ladies"

but I might be wrong...I was wrong once before...and it was a mistake:)

  • What was the name of that tune(s)?

  • Ged Folley also play(s)/played with THe House Band that toured quite a bit in the late80's to mid 90's in the US..

  • oo er, i think you're right. Age gets all of us

  • Although he's filling out the space behind his cittern a little more these days, I'm pretty sure that's Andy Irvine plucking away on his Sobell up there.

  • Also a couple of my friends have played in sessions in Co Cork with Jackie who seems to have largely withdrawn from recording/touring.
