Nuclear power is by far the most effective, clean, and efficient way of producing power. Clean in the sense that it does not pollute rivers and air like coal does (the "smoke" you see coming out of the chimneys is actually steam). It is about 70-80 percent efficient as opposed to wind energy which is far less reliable and is only 10-15 percent efficient at generating power (provided the wind is blowing. Its on-par or cheaper only in terms of operation, but start up capital costs are enormous, billions. I'm all for it, but the cost is simply rather difficult to control.
