You had a good reason to have been blown away.

yeah they have a Hupfeld Phonoliszt-Violina model A at the House On the Rock. It's on the 3rd floor (I believe) high up in a room along the walkway between the Heritage of the Sea exhibit and the Transportation Building. It is behind sliding glass doors and you have to ask a nearby employee to play it, which they will probably be happy to do. That one is a Phonolizst-Violina model A.
The instrument in this video is a model B (different case design) with a roll changer.

This is a nice arrangement of this famous piece although I personally think it could use a little more vibrato.
The best video I've ever heard of a Hupfeld Phonlizst-Violina on Youtube is "Hupfeld Phonoliszt Violina Orchestrion" posted by user dojora4. That is a magnificent arrangement played on an instrument in tip-top shape, although I agree that this one here sounds pretty good.
If out-of-tune, they can sound horrible, but once in-tune are pretty sweet.

I had a look at dojora4 and yes the sound is so much better, much more natural. Thanks for sharing :)
