6th dan sensei

this is my over 60 year old 6th dan sensei in a competition against my 2nd sensei whos just over 40 years old.

I probably see it wrong, but shouldn't he have a red/white belt, being a 6th dan?

i believe when you are 6th dan you can choose whether you want to use the red and white or just the black. and im not possitive, but i think in competition no matter what dan you are you use a black belt. i dont know too much about that cuz there arent that many high ranking dans here in chile.

@oogalyboogaly I believe you are correct. Where I live it also shows respect to wear a black belt when you go to someone else's dojo.

that's true, once you get the 6th DAN and until 8th DAN you can choose between them. There are more possibilities. You can get a black belt and add as many white bands or something as the grade that you have.

The thing is that I don't know if a sensei who's wearing a red-white belt can be thrown by one of his/her pupils or if it would be disrespectful :S
