http://www.tamu.edu/ On the Texas border, along the Rio Grande, there are a group of communities called The Colonias, where more than half a million people live without running water in their homes. B. Stephen Carpenter, associate professor in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture, helped create the Water Project, which provides simple, inexpensive water filters to The Colonias. These cone-shaped filters are made of clay and sawdust and produce clean drinking water.
