Thanks to Brian Strom for shooting this video.

This video shows the Bendix top turret on the B25J "Miss Mitchell" in operation. The plane is flown and owned by the Minnesota Commemorative Air Force. It is believed to be the only operational Bendix turret on a flying B25.

It has been out of operation for a few years but is now working after CAF member Earl fixed an electrical relay problem.

See my other videos for an inside view of the turret operation.

This turret needs the original complete gun sight! Please message me if you know where one is. I believe the correct sight would either the N-6A or N8 reflector sights.

  • When were the diagonal reinforcing strips added? I'm making a turret top for a model B-25H, and would like to know if the strips had been introduced when that type was operational.

  • @danlefou Is that for Barbie III? Its the only H I know about. The dome has been that way since I have been active at the CAF. If I remember right the dome is repro and came from Carl at Aero Trader. I do not know about any original domes, but my guess is Betty's Dream may be.

  • The gunner moves the turret by turning a two handled joystick left or right or up and down. My other video showing the turret operation in flight has a shot of the control stick at the end of the movie.

  • thanks!!!!

  • Imagine how loud that would be when those fired in that dome with you

  • @Type99mg It's for an old Monogram 1/48 kit with the turret dome missing. With new transfers, Vikin's Vicious Virgin is favourite, but the guy for whom I'm making the dome may yet build it as Barbie III. Thanks for the info on Betty'sDream. The turret is quite a subtle shape, isn't it?

I think I'll leave the extra strips off for the time being; they can always be added if more info comes to light.

  • You guys Rock! It's great to see the top turret working again and I here the tail turret is almost ready too. See you at the hangar.

  • Cool, how did the gunner turn the turret?

  • Awesome, nice job..
