Canadian Forces Buffalo Aircraft are used by 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron in Comox, B.C., This Canadian designed and built aircraft is perfectly suited to this role.

I apologise for the sound, it was a windy day, but I tink it is nice to hear the engines.

  • I heard that the C-27J Spartan will replace these, but will the C-27J replace some of the current C-130Es or does the Canadian government plan on buying C-130J Super Hercs'?

  • its my understanding that in the same anouncement where we bought 4 new c-17's there is a few (6 or 8 I think) c-130 being bought as well, but I am honestly not sure. The two planes (hercs, and the buffs) serve different roles, and personally I don't think the c-27's fill either very well.

  • Don't knock the C-17; It's a better plane than you think. It can take off and land in extremely small (As in non-paved and almost nonexistent) airfields with obstacles...and with an M1A2 Abrams tank inside.

  • no i like the C 17's, but canada has considered bying some c-27s to replace the 115's, and I don't think they are capable of the same tasks!

  • I believe the C-27 Spartan is out of the question now, as they plan on using some of the new C-130J Hercs to fulfill the SAR role on the west coast.

  • That is my understanding as well.....but I will still miss the venerable old buffs!

  • The C-17 is a good plane, yet we're dealing not with apples and oranges, but apples and apples: Reds & Grannies. The C-17 is just HUGE and carries tanks; The C-115 isn't and doesn't, but each has its unique specialty and ability. The only commonalities they share are: They're planes, have wings and cockpits and use the same fuel. Viva l'difference!

  • Short takeoff and landing man.

  • @SenorSpode Concordo plenamente contigo o C-115 é uma excelente aeronave, vi em demonstrações no interior da selva o que ele é capaz.

  • Bottom line- the Buffalo is the world's greatest assault airlifter. It is in a class all its own.

  • The Buffalo was an updated and radar equipped "Super Caribou" built by DeHavilland in anticipation of US orders that never came. Still very high performance for the type and has had a very long service in Canada and elsewhere

  • damn nice machine, but how do they go for a 3 point turn or kmart carpark?

  • That Is A Fast Stop!

  • Must be the DHC- 4 Caribou's cousin.....nice aircraft !!

  • yes

  • Can any of the 3 planes do STOL as good as Buffalos? They can carry more but payload dont matter as much for SAR which would make Buffalo better for the role.

C-27J is a maintenance nightmare too.....

  • Is this another copy of the caribou??
