MORRISSEY HELPS BRING DAVID JOHANSEN AND NEW YORK DOLLS BACK

The New York Dolls, who hit their peak in the early '70s and were done by 1975 are now back nearly 31 years later. The band is fronted by David Johansen, who had a stint as a solo artist and recorded with the moniker Buster Poindexter. The band is largely credited for both creating the pre-punk movement and planting the seeds for glam metal. The New York Dolls will reappear with an album, One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This, which is set for a July 25 release date. The comeback was largely spurred on by the band's biggest fan, and ironically that man is mope-rocker, Morrissey. Guitarist Sylvain Sylvain and Johansen talked about the reunion.

How about this: if influence was influence, there's not one band that carried more of it than The Beatles. I would be willing to wager that over 75% of the bands that arrived after The Beatles (say for the next 15 years or so) would suggest they were influenced by The Beatles. The NYDs? Maybe a few dozen might say it.
