Intro and gameplay excerpt of Corporation (1991), developed by Core Design Ltd.

Note: There is no audio in this video as I could not capture the MIDI data. Except for the music in the intro and very sparse effects during the game, you're not missing anything.

Corporation, originally released for the Commodore Amiga in 1990, is one of the earliest 3D shooter games for the PC. Is graphics are quite nice with features such as dynamic lighting, and the gameplay is astonishingly complex with role-playing, stealth and hacking elements. However, it was hampered by bad controls and only marginally helpful documentation, so this is no System Shock.

The player takes control of one of six ZODIAC agents and needs to inflitrate the London headquarters of U.C.C., the Universal Cybernetics Corporation. Landing on the building's roof, the goal is to progress from the fifth floor down to the lowest (8th) basement level and find incriminating evidence, allowing the authorities to shut down the illegal genetic experiments taking place there. In order to reach lower levels, the player needs to find terminals scattered across the upper floors to give himself/herself/itself higher security clearances for the elevators. Activities include hacking electronic door locks, avoiding alarm triggers, battling mutants and robots, and staying alive through the planned use of technical equipment, medications, etc.

In this video, you see the complete intro sequence and part of the opening credits, the character creation and equipment screens, and parts of the first two levels. The little crabs didn't do any harm in this case, probably a bug as normally they inflict damage. Occasional cuts occur where I cut out some parts of the video.

  • This game looks a LOT like Cyber-Cop for the Sega Genesis, i used to play that game as a kid. like. these games are completely identical.

are they related in any way?? lol

  • @forgedeath They're the same game! The NTSC releases of Corporation for the Genesis were titled Cyber-Cop. I don't know why they changed the name though.

  • @cavegames

Ah, it all makes sense now, is this the Amiga gameplay?

It looks far superior to the genesis version,

(in the genesis version there is an auto-lock aiming system)

  • @forgedeath The recording is from the MS-DOS port. It is a bit different visually, but as far as I know it plays the same as the Amiga version.

  • Is there any chance to beat this game?

I own this since 1993 for the sega genesis, I spent a LOT OF TIME, I never finished it, is there any WALKKTHROUGH?

  • I'm sure there is a chance, but it is definitely one of the hardest games I have ever played. I don't think I ever got farther than the 3rd level or so. Couldn't find any walkthrough or FAQ, I guess those who usually write them also got frustrated and gave up!

  • Wow, from the creators of Tomb Raider, also what's interesting is it was released a year before id's Hovertank 3D. According to Wikipedia It was developed for Core Design by Dementia Productions by Bill Allen with graphics and design by Kevin Bulmer(just 2 guys:O) Released 1990 first on the Amiga then the Atari ST and PC DOS, later ported to the Mega Drive/Genesis. So if these stats are correct it would mean that this game is the father of modern FPS and not id software:O

  • This scared the poop out of me when I was a kid.

...not that I could ever figure out how to play it properly. XD

  • It's been a while since I played, but I think the gun does not have to be reloaded but "recharged". You somehow have to use the gun with the power outlet on your suit (I think you have to bring up the picture of the gun for this), which will deplete some of your energy resources.

  • I have problems reloading my gun on this game. Can you help?
