It was originally the LA County poor farm, not so much an insane asylum as it was a work farm, and later a physical rehab hospital, before the new Rnachp Los Amigos was built on Imperial. Sure, there were a few crazies there, but most nutjobs went to the Norwalk State Hospital (now Metropolitan State Hospital)

i have ways around security guards... rent a cops dont like to get tazed or pepper sprayed but thats what i will do to them if they get in my way lol....when i urban explore i do what i want im not going to let a rent a cop get in the way of me exploring lol

My band shot a music video inside one of the buildings at this asylum / mental health complex.
It's a huge chunk of land with what looked like about 20 to 30 buildings on it. Some creepy rooms. One room was just a bathtub in the center of the room with what looked like chains attached.

I've lived in Downey since I was a kid back in 1962 and I still can't figure out where this is. It looks like it might be the abandoned building across from Rancho. Is that where this was filmed?

yup right across from rancho. its practically impossible to get in now. the building is now a training facility for swat and and other law enforcement personnel. security staff guard it from inside and outside the building.
