The Onancock School Playground

The Eastern Shore of VA is a very rural area. Much of the population has low to moderate income. Informal recreation is not as easily accessible as in urban centers. Kids in Onancock can't walk or ride a bike to find a safe place to play.
WE NEED A PLAYGROUND!
FRIENDS of Onancock School held a playground fundraiser collecting up to $6,000 in local donations. 30 children submited pictures of their ideal playground. A "Playground Design Team" was commisioned to provide a Community Built Playground Plan. Cultural, historic, geologic and collective creativity was used in our design and construction plan.
The projected cost is $65,000. 25 volunteered to help coordinate, build, assemble and landscape. The materials list is extensive but much is locally donated. An economic downturn has only made us try harder to find a way to fill this huge need.
