"suck live"? are you fucking joking mate - i prefer my live bands to sound live (mistakes and all) thenjust "the studio louder" bollocks that we're used to.
-
great song - i listen to brotherhood more than any other new order album

In my opinion this is the best song on Brotherhood and one of the best of their career. Too bad the TV show rolled the credits during this, and then cut everything off before the best part of the song. The last 2 minutes of Broken Promise are probably New Order's best guitar interplay ever, and I can't even think of a Joy Division song that rocks like those final minutes either.

barneys voice can sound a bit flat, but i will always forgive him& the music is still damned intense& i think its fun to compare different performances

I've no doubt that "Broken Promise" and "Primitive Notion" are the best New Order songs, both melody and lyrics.

+ don't you hate seeing a band that sound exactly like the studio recording?...could name names but we all know who they are right?

john peel said he loved them like the fall coz they let you know if they were having a bad day or not, no facade!! are you sure you don't mean reading '93?..complete perfection!!

My favorite off of Brotherhood. Such an underrated album.

When Bernard was around 12 stone lighter than he is now!
I was at this recording for The Tube. What I always loved about New Order was the fact that you would never know what you would get. They could make your heart race or have you looking at your watch.
The BEST gig for me was the Brixton Ace in 1983. Worst, any of the gigs between Kansas and New York 1989 on the Technique tour, hence the final time I saw them ...

I love New Order (hence my nick), but man do they suck live.

I agree that they were prone to have a few too many off days, but when they were on form, they were something very special indeed; Derby Blue Note (March '82) and Cardiff (January '83) were classic live performances that I will never ever forget and the Reading Festival '98 must go down as the greatest 'come-back' gig ever!
