I dry green algae into a "green brownie," then extract the oil with a screw press. This shows the press screw turning with the press head and barrel removed. The noise is from the bioreactor pump. The press is almost completely silent. The 1/10th acre bioreactor is capable of at lease 10 gallons of oil per day.

  • err how did i get here from watching car racing

  • Why not just boil the oil off and in the process crack it into gas or something.. That's not much different than how they process crude oil which is just a gunky..

  • i am sure oil floats on top of oil completely, that cant be an issue

  • @dcbird I can't answer that specific question (this isn't my video) but Scenedesmus is much better than Chlorella from what I've heard. I also hear Botryococcus (bo-tri-cau-cus) is very good for lipid content.

  • @datzfast You get water + oil which leaves you yet again with the problem of separation, or so I'm told.

  • what happens if you screw press wet alagae? do you still get oil?

  • have you ever made 10 gallons in a day?

  • who makes that press

  • How much oil do you get from 1 kg algal sludge? Did you centrifuge algae? We grow chlorella but it only runs about 20% oil.
