An inspiring Boston man known as "The Dancing Doctor" died March 10, 2009. Dr. Michael Shannon, who was 55 years old passed away, after returning from a vacation abroad.
Shannon was a world-famous pediatric toxicologist and former head of emergency medicine at Children's Hospital in Boston. He was also the first African-American to make full professor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School.
When Shannon wasn't at work though, he was probably dancing. He performed in Ballet Rox's annual production of "The Urban Nutcracker."
It is so sad to learn about this so accomplished and obviously beautiful-spirited man only after his death. In a more perfect world, people like this, who work so hard and give so much, would live the longest lives. It does sound like he had a very good, fully lived life while he was here, and I wish hope, healing and peace for his family and friends.
