you say turn but there must be more to it than that on the downswing. What about the hand and arm position coming down and thru ? If you just turn your hips from the top of the backswing you will be swinging over the top...not good. seems like you're leaving something out. Do you drop the arms and hands while retaining the lag angle first before starting the turn to make sure you come from the inside..? Where's the release....? Thanks.....

Yes. Half the battle with driver is setup. Setup with your front foot in line with club head 3" behind the ball. FORGET about the ball... just keep your weight 60% on the front foot, push back with your front shoulder, the start the downswing with the hips and KEEP TURNING. You will hit the ball on the upswing with your turn (not hands) and it will be straight and long (unless you use your hands then it will pull or hook or draw) . Keep you hands quiet and passive.

Thanks so much for this! I took it to the range today and it worked like a charm, I can't thank you enough! Do you have any special advice for the driver? I am pushing and slicing, even less with this technique, but still. I really love your videos, they're great. Thanks!

@silvermark04 Great... Keeping your shoulders level as you sit down to the ball is another great key... easy to drop the back shoulder (not good).
Hi Ross. Think I' ve fallen into a bad move on the take away but wanted to check with you. Haven't been getting my left shoulder under my chin and didn't know why. Today I noticed that I was focused on taking the club back with the head very low to the ground for the first 18 inches or two feet. I'm thinking now this was causing my shoulder to move too much out and around rather than back and under. Plan to focus on letting the clubhead rise naturally from start of backswing. Make sense?

@MMmm97vO You can't really focus on where the head goes. Focus on your front shoulder pushing the club straight back and up! Don't worry where the club is. Your shoulder is pushing the whole package, arms and club as a template or unit. Just push (quickly is better) so you create momentum to wind up your back muscles. The big key is restricting the lower body or keeping 60% of your weight on the front leg as you push back. Then, check out the Ross Move video here for the downswing.

Thank you, this solve my mysteries. Always try to hit the ball and use the hands the square the club head. Now, to square, just turn with the hip. Simple and rock solid contact, thank you very much.

@eeemwong Me too for years trying to time some kind of hand hit. The golf swing Will NEVER be consistent until the hands are out and the Large Muscles (shoulders & hips) take control... Please check out my blog for more New, Improved golf instruction.. click on links in description

... con't from below. The gravity thing is like if you push a child on a swing up then let go, it naturally drops. There was stored potential. Same with the swing. When the shoulders wind up, their potential wants to unwind and the hips initiate and lead and the arms will just return and the club releases on it's own because nothing manipulated it to begin with. The hard part is over riding the urge to help with the hands or control with the hands. No lifting and Hands are passive

No.. there really isn't. If you setup correctly, with arms under you shoulders, there is no need for correction. If you do no use your hands and arms to lift and hinge, there is no need for them to un-do what they did. The front shoulder pushes everything all the way up until your front shoulder is under your chin... then unwind and just let gravity do it's job and turn... it is that easy once you learn to use large muscles and keep you hands from manipulating the club.
