So you want every band to do as little with their music as possible? Music is basically about trying to create something unique.

Pretentious music can still be good music.

Wow. I just came here to listen to a band i like...
I'm pretty sure that groups need to have similar mentality in order to function. For instance, bands, clubs, teams or any group of people with a common goal must already have a similar mentality in order to be in that group in the first place, and to allow it to progress.
If you can't align yourself with any group that shares a mentality, then you are useless to democracy, social groups and teams of any sort.
By the way, this band is nuts.

i think some people are taking what john said about the players being "so good" somewhat out of context.

by the way he was talking i felt like he meant to say talented. i don't know why, but talented seems to come off a little less pretentious than "SO GOOD."

Ive never thought of a band as pretentious or self indulgent. Im not even sure what thats supposed to mean when applied to music. If I like it, if there was some serious effort and thought put into the music, then Im fine with it.
