An instructional film about the latest craze from Asia! Directed by Daniel Hsia. This video was made in 2002, some version of it appeared on YouTube a while ago but I believe this is the highest-quality one available.

Keep your ab muscles tight to help keep u from falling back, slow speed...squeeze your glutes when you come up from the squat. Stronglift 5x5 brought me here, learned a lot. Reason i have knee pain is bc i wasnt squating deep enough. Thank you google ;)

I'm Asian and I do think. I thought everyone does it that way.

Yep, whenever my back gets wrecked, I do this to relieve the pain and get things back in line. I didn't know it had a name however.

Martial arts are not only Asian. Western martial arts are/were totally a thing. But, upon the discovery and development of effective gunpowder based weapons, they were believed to be obsolete. Eventually the western art of defense became fencing and boxing etc. Most western styles have been nearly lost to sport.

Martial arts were more important culturally in the east however, and have been preserved, thankfully.

Most of my American friends can't do this because they're too fat. Their stomach gets in the way of their thighs, and their big thighs provide discomfort.

I don't think this is about the weightlifting squat. This is about the position of rest when you just can't be bothered/are too tired to stand.
