I was lucky to see and talk the Art Pepper in Stuttgart 1980 or 1981 - one of the last concerts on this last tour in Europe. Great concert - they played form 130 minutes.
When I was in NY I visited and interviewed people from WKCR, when the sad news came in that AP died. They immediately changed the program and played several great tunes. This is the kind of radio I like!

The album "No Limit", has a version of this in which he plays tenor, and comes into the studio the next day and plays alto sax, over it , as if a duet. I find it as probably the best sax I will ever hear. Not Joe Henderson, sonny rollins, charlie parker, coltrane, etc. His heart is huge as far as his playing. And his documentary is really trippin.

@936trt They recorded under Art's name. While Art is excellent and first rate, Sonny is supernatural.
That bass sounds like sex.

I was very fortunate to have heard Art Pepper at The Jazz Showcase shortly before he passed away. He was an AMAZING player. He graciously autographed his book "Straight Life." He rolled up his pants leg and showed his swollen leg. He had severe edema...indicative of a major heart problem. Sadly he passed away shortly after his Chicago gig. Art was truly one of my favorite musicians...he played with such incredible passion and soul. Thanks for posting.
