In support of their 1996 CD "Keys To Ascension," Yes performed inside the Tower Records store on the famed Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, CA. As one of the fortunate 300 to acquire a ticket (courtesy of Arrow 93 FM), it was a thrill to see them perform 10 feet away from me. We also greeted them in person afterwards. When I mentioned to Chris Squire that I recently began working with Patrick Moraz, he said, "Ah, then you have your hands full. Great talent, and a character that one." I further told him that he was among my influences for playing bass, along with Jaco and Paul McCartney and John Entwistle. He dryly said to Alan White sitting next to him, "Why can't I be the only one?"

thanks... this is the best sounding yes live i've heard in a long long time, and steve and the boys really are very together. perharps it's the size of the hall, they can hear each other.

would be great to hear the complete tune of america and starship trooper.

  • I'm sure if Jon were answering, he'd say, "You certainly can hear the songs in their entirety, on the Key's To Ascension CD!" At this time, they were playing a lot together given they were in the midst of finishing KTA2.

  • Many thanks to siskokidd for posting this video. I was lucky enough to attend this in-store appearance of the classic Yes lineup and they really rocked. While getting their autographs following the performance, I asked Chris if he really got his nickname (the Fish) from spending so much time in the bathtub. Before he could answer, Rick Wakeman jumped in and said "That's nothing...you should see the scuba gear".

  • It was quite a talkfest for them, wasn't it? So many people saying things and asking questions, plus them sitting so close together. Listening to them respond, it seemed as if they were deliberately looking for an opportunity to cross up the person sitting next to them. I remember the feeling of, "Holy crap! I'm shaking Rick Wakeman's hand!"

  • There's a 55 minute version of this floating around in trading circles.

  • Thanks for introducing me to Jaco Pastorious, although I've a fondness for Levin & R. Sinclair, whom I share birthdays with. yeah

  • Excellent sound.

  • What a great live sound!!

  • It doesn't show up in the video, but during the Wurm section of Starship Trooper, Chris' bass pedals were causing cement dust to trickle down through the openings in the drop ceiling onto the stage...excellent.

  • mr squire is second influence in me picking up a bass after john entwistle...geddy lee brings up a close third...
