this is part of the reason seafood prices are so high, TEDs are mandatory on all nets. More expenses for fisherman = higher seafood prices

Possibly a factor yes. The major factor though is that it's a case of supply and demand. There are less fish in the sea because fish stocks have been decimated by indiscriminate over-fishing. Therefore the remaining fish are worth more. TEDs are reasonably cheap and save the lives of endangered turtles. Roll-bars airbags and the like all cost more to have in our cars but they save lives and are now standard.

Only large marine life will make it out through the TED. Smaller fish and target species such as prawns will stay in the trawl net.

This TED is so wonderful. The commercial shrimpers are always looking for ways to help the environment. This is used on the sandy bottoms as shrimp are being harvested. Fresh fish and shrimp from Florida is all I purchase. Thank you ScubazooVideo for this wonderful footage.

What about at 2:24? What happened if that hits a coral or something else on the sea floor? What do you think will happen then? Still kinda like taking a bulldozer to the ocean floor.....
