While chalking around Concord, NH on Saturday, April 9th, an international solidarity day for Bradley Manning, I'm approached by a librarian about my activities.

Chalking is not illegal and past Supreme Court cases have recognized speech via non-permanent alteration of a public environment. Chalk leaves no trace of itself after the first rain, and requires no resources to be removed (unless someone is so inclined to waste their time).

Previous chalking demonstrations at the federal compound on Pleasant Street in Concord have resulted in temporary arrests and fines being issued to those who chalked after being given stern-sounding 'stop' orders by men with guns. I avoided that location on this day, but chalked many other well foot-trafficked public spaces, including the sidewalk of the state house, legislative office building, and some corners of busy intersections.

  • I reomoved my comment because you are obiviously a misguided teenager.

You are the prime example of why the draft should never have ended. You lack an

understanding of the issues involved and are still lhinking with your little head,

Besides who really gives a fuck what you think?

  • @SGTRVN1 "Besides who really gives a(n) (expletive) what you think?"

You, apparently. Thanks for watching and responding!

If you ever find yourself being held by the government under the conditions which Bradley was being held, I'll be sure to chalk for your freedom as well. Peace and love!

  • Garret Ean, you can run but you can't hide forever, how about I come to your place and we'll talk?

  • Yay you!!!!!

  • I love it. My cousin was a head librarian in D.C. (retired after 35 years) and she would tell you to keep up the good work. She was raised in Amsterdam and is a hippie at heart. It's sad how uptight and conformist many Americans are. They remind me of J. Alfred Prufrock, afraid to eat a peach. I'll bring some chalk to the anti-war demonstration in D.C. on October 6. Thanks for reminding me. Hope you can be there!

  • Clearly those librarians are FASCIST. Go into the young adult section and you'll probably find lots of political prisoners in cells underneath the bookshelves.

  • Time is speeding up. Dont you have that feeling? I mean not in your routine everyday life, but when you at least have a little time to just think about possibilities of certain actions and reactions. The world is how you see it. Everything has more than one side.

  • @SGTRVN1 Jah almighty, you kiss your mother with that mouth Sgt? And do you have a justification for your disagreement that consists of something more than just threats of violence?

    Peace be with you.

  • I guess you are allowed to drive on the sidewalk, since he is not in jail right now and being tortured like Brad Manning.
