I also thought it was Rosie when I first heard it, but then I saw Kathy Young on PBS and she performed this song.

Yep... A Thousand Stars was recorded by Kathy Young and the Innocents in June of 1960 when Kathy was 14 years old. She first sang it by herself, but the sound was not full enough, so a group called the Innocents joined her, and when they recorded it... everybody just knew it was going to be special... which it was. It reached #3 on the Top 100 Hits.
