Follow along as Motorcycle USA puts two of Italy's newest street bikes against each other to find out which one is best for the 2009 Aprilia Shiver vs. Ducati Monster 696 comparison.
Just to say, I have recently passed my test and bough an Aprilia Shiver, and I can't tell you how nice it is to ride. I'm 6ft1inch and am around 14.2 stone (Around 200 pounds). I get on great with her! Power is just incredible and at low speeds she is as calm as a V-Twin can get!
Having trouble finding luggage to go on it though! I would recommend this as a first/beginners bike!
@elamd Lol, well I have to agree with you there. Lots of newbs run straight out and buy gzcxbr 600s or whatever. What I ought to have said is that most newbs that aren't squids or posers, go for 250s precisely because they're not powerful, they're light, they're flickable, cheap, and anyone taller than Frodo Baggins can flat foot them. Look I'm not bashing 250s, I'm just saying that they're not good highway bikes. Sure you can ride them there, it's just not their ideal environment.
Indeed, nobody is stopping you from having a silly and uninformed belief. Once again, skill is not the issue, indeed it takes far less skill to ride a 250 than a full sized motorcycle which is a large part of why they're popular with newbies. Trying to award yourself points for "skill" for not grasping entry-level physics and having a small bike is transparently feeble. My lack of skill? Lol i do track days several times a month, you... commute.
Everyone's entitled to their opinion. mine is, you don't have any idea what your talking about. Speed limits on Michigan highways in Michigan are 70, no problems there. I dislike heavy bikes because they're fat and cumbersome. Riding them on the highway is fine. So's a 250. Weight won't make up for your lack of skill.
Nice profile, btw. 'List of trolls and morons i've destroyed:'? lmao. You know what they say about arguing with 'tards on the net.
Yeah, you're saying you ride a 250 on the highway daily. I'm saying that it's a shitty bike for highway use, which it is. The fact that you think it's good on the highway means that you can't have ridden much else on the highway, unless highways where you live run at about 40mph. Secondly ccs are not what matters, power to weight, friendly ergos, and power delivery are what matters to a noob.
Thank you guys for the video. I was considering both of the bikes, but after I listened to your comments it has made my choice a lot easier.

250's aren't popular with noobs around here or anywhere afiaik. They all spring for big, used sportbikes because they need speed and the image.
Anyway, keep digging! Life's too short to argue with ignorant know-it-alls.

More like the other way around.
"Get it?"
