I dug up an ExxonMobil burn pit at the McGill Brothers Central Tank Battery in South Texas. ExxonMobil used to dump all salt water and oilfiled waste into pits. The liquids would seep into the ground water below. When the pit got to full, they would burn it. This movie as filmed Oct 2, 2008.

  • it did seem to have high flash point. The guy lighting it is an oilfield chemist. He said when it's so old like that, the lighter gases have evaporated, so it's just the really heavy stuff left.

  • Cool, but who honestly wants to play round with a bunch of oilfield sludge?

  • Maybe it did not burn because it was not gas! Maybe it was oil residue or something similar.
