The Citroen GS Birotor sets off in first gear of its 3-speed semi-auto gearbox and sounds superb! It was one of only 2 or 3 Birotors in the UK but has now been exported. Most of these vehicles were scrapped after Citroen recalled them.

  • The NSU rotary motor had much in common with the GS rotary and they were made in the same factory - if what I have read is correct.

  • The previous comment misses the point. The GS Birotor is not "just a car driving away". It has a rotary engine and if you listen to this video with a decent sound system you will hear a very unusual engine sound unlike any ordinary piston engine. You are only listening to the rotary in first gear of the 3-speed semi-automatic gearbox and it must have been approaching maximum revs.

  • It was the GS Birotor horn.

  • I have been advised that this car is no longer in the UK.

  • God damn this video made me miss my old RX7

  • @zzf00l Rotary engines have ROTORS, not PISTONS.

  • Fuel consumption is still a major downside to the rotary piston engine..

The NSU and Citroën wankel was the same (only very light differences), and was buit in the common COMOTOR factory (50/50 alliance between the 2 in 1967 ).

After Citroën was absorbed by PSA and NSU by VAG, the only positive in this adventure was the born of the modern Audi, direct inspired from the Ro80...

Mazda continues the automotive Wankel history...

  • Auto davvero interessante, praticamente quasi scomparsa. Complimenti per lo stato di conservazione.

  • great, great car...I love that

  • Amazing sound and car...

  • such a fabulous continuation of the GS shape, tis s damn shame the frogs saw fit to scrap all those it could wrangle back from the owners. im sure a simple repower could have seen these cars back on the road. such early days of the wankel engine though.... how much in common did they have with the NSU unit???
