The Southern Center for Human Rights (SCHR) held its 14th annual Frederick Douglass Awards Dinner in Washington DC on November 18, 2010. There, SCHR presented the 2010 Frederick Douglass Human Rights Award to the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia (PDS) for fifty years of unwavering commitment to excellence, for demanding the full measure of justice, and respect for the dignity of every person. Here, master of ceremonies Charles J. Ogletree, Jr., PDS alumnus, Harvard Law Professor and Chair of the Board of the Southern Center for Human Rights welcomes the crowd of over 400 who came to celebrate SCHR and PDS.
