@bowlingballout yea there becoming a problem in north jersey... we tried everthing to get rid of them if you squash it the smell it leaves behind will also atract other stink beetles to the area it was killed.

In SoCal, we call it a stink bug, though when I google searched it, "stink bug" showed another picture.

I hate them sooo much we get them a lot lately... my cat who is a great bug hunter/ killer made the mistake of eating one and she threw up for two days after she ate it. no matter what we do they still get in our house. EWWWWWWWWWWW

I haven't seen too many in our yard, but they are pretty common in the nearby fields.

From what I've read, they emit an odor. Humans can't really smell it, but it can irritate dogs that might want to bother it.
