X-99 Yacht Inspection by 6 year old yacht Surveyor. The X-99 was first launched in 1985. Over 620 yachts have sold world wide. She is lovely sports cruiser. Hoist her 30 square meter mainsail and another 20 sq mtr in the 100% jib and she will move her 2980 kgs full weight of which 1300 kgs is in the keel at a very nice rate of knots upwind. Fall off and toss out a spinnaker and she will fly. As a one design she is required to run Dacron sails expecting the Number 1 Genoa. This really helps keeps costs down overall. Here in Japan we can get our hands on boats such as the one in this video at pretty cheap prices. They need a great deal of work and repair but if we do a good job then we may just have a Velux winner tied up in the stable. .

  • Oh, O.K. well the X-99 is a great boat. As a newbie note that she is sporting 'Running Backstays" If you are not used to those you will need to get used to them. BUT I love the running Backstay system. I am not sure of boat condition so can not comment on repairs. Where is the boat? Where are you? Happy to show you our X-99 if you are in Japan.

  • Hi Mark: Did you put this yacht up for sail in Kobe?

  • @jonbaobao HI There. No I have not put it on the market. Today the boat is fully restored and sailing as a member of the Kansai Yacht Club WhiteSail club racing fleet.

  • @marksmithjapan Thank you Mark. I found one x99 on the market and am thinking about buying it. I am a newbie and worry about it will turn out to be too overwhelming to refit it for me.
