J'ai vu Manon à Bastille mardi dernier. La mise en scène est surprenante. On adhère ou pas et apparemment, Natalie Dessay est peu convaincue mais elle fait tout à fait illusion et je trouve sa voix même plus émouvante qu'avant. Je ne connaissais pas cette version. Merci.

She had a good voice, too bad she got nodules from overworking it. Now she sounds shrill. The dress is very beautiful.

@classicalgal14 oh my god, then it's fine. I already thought what a sucking audience^^

Well I was impressed, even if the audience wasn't

This must have been between her vocal surgeries, or right after her second one? I'm no Fan of Dessay, but this ain't bad

Amo su Manon. Quizá la mejor que hay actualmente... :D

her notes are very clean and her voice is lovely, despite the vibrato and the amazingly high notes she reaches... o love her but I just can´t stop thinking of Anna Netebko since I've seen her singing the 3rd act of manon with Rolando Villazón.... Lovely performance. Besides she's just the most beautiful woman i've ever seen with that kind of voice

Oh my god thank you so much for this! It's quite fascinating to see how her portrayal of Manon has developed over the years. Do you have the Adieu, notre petite table or the final scene? Thanks!
This was a dress rehearsal my aunt was the stage manager for this production I was 11 at the time :)

Thank You! For me Dessay is my very favorite Manon. I had never really enjoyed this opera before (even after hearing Sills, Gruberova and Fleming) but I think because she is French she has a grasp on the language that the others lack. The phrasing is different and more affective because she communicates in the language so naturally. It is her best role because it allows her to fulfill her need to explore the opera in the most truly theatrical way possible. I love it when she sings in French.
