  • ok, so im tryna build one of these babies for a project, but when i touch the acrylic theres no white blobs for touchlib to pic up. when i touch the glass (pressing really hard) theres a blob but its incredibly faint.

    What should i do....

    what could be the problem?

  • Make sure the leds are angled properly to fire into the acrylic. You could also try using more LEDS. Also many cameras actually have an ir filter which you may have to remove first before it can detect much IR. Another way to increase the brightness of the spot is to wet your finger a little bit.

  • We use a strip of infrared leds on a top of a pane of acrylic. The infrared light is trapped by total internal reflection until you push on the panel with your finger. When you touch it the total internal reflection is perturbed and a blob of infrared light forms around your finger which is tracked by a high speed webcam on the other side of the touch screen.

  • The tracker software used is the touchlib library which is availible online for free. To get an image onto the acrylic panel, we put tracing paper over it's surface and used a projector to project an image onto it.

  • exlent xabrexx, im tempted to make one of this, can you post more details about the making, materials, etc?. thanks. i was watching some sites to do this, but allways is good to have several points of view from people who tryed already

  • yep, there are geeks who specifically look for this kinda stuff.

nice work, looks like it runs pretty smooth.

  • wow interesting ^^

  • Was just wondering what the "interesting artifact" was. Clearly it's multi-touch-like, but how does it work? Is it zapping the mouse pointer back and forth?

Awesome vid btw! I've definitely gotta make one!

  • pretty cool stuff...but does it last? i mean is it very fragile?

  • Try removing the IR filter and replacing it with the exposed end of a negative of film, that way the camera wont see visible light, but it will see infrared. That's my advice, hope it works.

  • sweet ^^

Write a tutorial on how to build one yourself :P

  • cool
