This video was a request someone asked about. They wanted me to show how I tune the Top Snare Head. I don't use a drum dial or any torque meter to tune, I just use the standard drum key and go by touch and feel. I like the top head to feel like the tightness of a Basketball, and the bottom head to feel like a Soccer Ball. I hope this video helps you get to the best snare drum sound possible. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin'

  • How tight did you tune the snare top and bottom head I still don't understand the basketball and soccer tightness thing

  • @Ludwigzildjian1 Well a basketball when you push on it, it's very tight and doesn't give like a soccer ball. A Soccer ball gives when you push on it. The same should be done with the top and bottom of your snare heads. Hope that's clearer. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • Joe i need some help here. I got my snare with the Pearl Forum series since I am a new drummer. The snare is a little echoey and it won't go away however i tune it. Should i buy a new snare (JoeyJordison's Signature Snare) or can i fix this somehow?.

  • @ZePerfectionist I would still use your snare don't buy a new one just yet. Try dampening the drum around the inside of the rim with a REMO product called REMO O's, it's a plastic ring that fits on top of your batter head to stop the overtones. Hope that helps Any other questions let me know. OK? Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • Mr. Joe, I read somewhere that John Bonham used to tighten the resonant head way more than the batter head. I tried this and it helped alot. It also stopped the snare ringing when i hit the toms.

  • @reelisgonnarock Yea that works pretty good. I'm not sure if Bonham did that, he may have. Thanks for Watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS

  • I'm getting drums soon... Can someone tell me if there's a difference between tom heads and snare heads? Do they make them separately? Or do you just go buy a head that fits your drum, and it doesn't matter if it's a snare or tom? I really need to know this because I know stock heads are shitty.

  • Hey joe question(s) im thinking about switching drum heads which is more durable and more resonant evans or remo and what is the best combination with either one

  • @ZePerfectionist joey jordison snare is shit, buying new equipment wouldn't make you a better player, it would just show that you're a spoiled brat

  • @CommanderDaz Yea unfortunately that can happen due to paper's light weight. As long as you get something in between those edges and the head though, your set!

  • @XxStrongDrums1996xX i do that (except i used a piece of cloth) and it makes my snare sound great. then i tried i piece of paper and some polyester strips but they keep falling out :(

  • You didn't seat the head?
