Review of the S&W model 65-5 357 magnum revolver. Great double duty revolver for home defense and CCW use. It can shoot both 357 magnum and 38 special.

  • What do i need to do to obtine a firearm for home defence?

  • @STONEPOWERS600 Wait until you are 18 to buy a shotgun is what I would do if I were you since you are only 16.

  • I thought .38 were shorter than the .357 or is the .38 special longer ?

  • @counkev .38 is shorter. 357 magnum is longer but the same diameter.

  • Why do you say the S&W is better than the Ruger?

  • @tomgartin Because in my opinion it is. Of course that is just my unprofessional opinion which I have a right to have. Rugers are built like tanks but their triggers can be a little rough. S&W has been making revolvers for well over 100 years and they have dang near perfected their double action triggers. They are smooth and crisp and predictable. I am not biased to just S&W. As a matter of fact I have already sold this 357 magnum and I'd like to get a Ruger SP101just because I like that gun.

  • @donkylalex I am not sure exactly what you are asking? Did you mean why do we sell guns to "the" public? If so, I would guess because its completely legal in America? Its a product just like anything else. I'd say it falls under the "tool" category or "recreation/entertainment" category? Is it dangerous? Sure it is, but so is a car or alcohol or a pool...which btw those of which kill more people every year than guns do ironically.

  • Great review but are you sure that's a 4 inch barrel ? It looks shorter to me. I could be wrong though :-) anyway i enjoyed the review and thanks for posting :-)

  • This is one bad ass S&W!!

  • I do prefer four inch, blued revolvers but to each his own

  • @oneoctavelow

He told her it was 4 inches.

  • @charlesvan13: Yes indeed! Now days you nearly have to be sliced up in peaces before your afforded to defend yourself. Only the criminals get great representation for free, not the innocent. However, a dead man tells no tails, you can tell the story anyway you want providing he was shot facing you.

    Use wisdom...

  • @1LonePuma

Firing it at a person, in a self defense situation, is always risky.

There's a lot of disagreement in the interpretation of the laws.

Someone was recently aquitted in Colorado of 2nd degree murder for shooting someone in such a situation. The jurry found him to be justified, but he sure went through a lot, not knowing if he was going to prison.

But on your point, you can always use 38 bullets.

  • I'll probably have my dad get me my 1911 and a revolver and by this review and others I'm thinking of getting a S&W ^_^

  • @counkev Nice play by play. I own all of those + more (@0SanMan0), but I appreciate your thoroughness to others. (Your tip on your ejector on your .357 being longer as a plus was kind of funny after your CCW talk, but valid (mine is snub (and she carries WELL, with anything I chose to wear.)). If' you're in an hour long battle with someone and you only have CCW and you need multiple reloads, you were definitely in the wrong place at the wrong time. More than TWO reloads is a standoff! POLEASE!
