MIT senior Quinn Vollmert, left, and sophomore Adam Talsma practice their team's steel bridge construction sequence outside the MIT Student Center on May 5. The two are part of an MIT Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering team that is competing in the American Society of Civil Engineers National Steel Bridge Competition to be held May 23-24 at the University of Florida, Gainesville. Their bridge will be assembled at the competition and must withstand a 2,500-pound load. The judges will score teams on constructability, usability, stiffness, construction speed, efficiency, economy and looks.

Well Done MIT. That looked like a well thought out design. Good 'Triangulation', and nifty use of weight saving tensile cables. Also good use of the DeWalt DC728KA (?) cordless drill to speed fabrication. A WELL COOL BRIDGE! Thanks for posting.

Not bad. I'm extremely jealous of you guys. I would kill to work on something like that.
Great implementation of the varying materials across the structure. Looks light, efficient and it went together pretty quick.
Next time use a stationary camera and shoot a time lapse. Zooming in and out for 7 minutes FTL.
