Lovely shot, you know the problem with MTU. There's no panache about em, clean quiet do the job, with a minmum of fuss. In a word BORING. Give me a whizzo, deltic, 37, valenta 47 or 56 anyday.
-
and those MTU's really do sound different - all of them so there sounding nice, if not nicer than some of the valentas
-
Nothing wrong with MTU's - Valenta were nice and will be missed but at least the MTU's re keeping the HST's on - after all - what would you rather have, nice deep sounding MTU HST or class 180 or 220 ??
-
wow the two OLDEST power cars and they kicked out way less crap than the others did. what a way to go out, i bet the driver was chuffed!
-
the sound of beauty.lets hope the hst's xc will get this year will be valenta powered! top vid pal!
-
Gutted I wentto Warley that day instead!!
-
the both cant be 253001 lol pure beastage
-
Brute force, and guts!!!
unlike any MTU garbage.
Umm, yes they can.
HSTs were originally classed as Multiple Units. Therefore a Western Region HST unit (253XXX) would cover the cars and the coaches. And IIRC 253001 was indeed 43002 and 43003.

Oh how lovely to have heard the pair working as they were intended to again...What a marvellous day that was, never again afterwards would we have the delights of doing it like that.
Good video, glad I watched it!
