Took about 6 months of reseach, searching, and hard work, but now it's finally done. 1968 Olds rocket 350 with a th-400 tranny.

UPDATE::

The squeaking is the power steering belt. It has since been tightened and doesn't squeak anymore. This motor is rated at 255 hp and 360 ft/lbs back in 1968. Upgrades are X pipe exhaust, dual plane manifold, and 4 barrel carb (numbers were based on the tiny 2 barrel, now sucking down more fuel)

The car runs 15.8 in the 1/4 mile so the HP number is roughy 268. Not bad on a NEVER REBUILT 40 YEAR OLD MOTOR.

I didn't go with a big block for a few reasons. I didn't have the money to upgrade the 7.5 rear end at the time. They don't make heavy duty springs for the Delta 88, and at a stock rating of 510 ft/lbs it probably would bend the frame

  • how much did this cost? my 307 has a knock but no engine check light is on, but i think i might have to rebuild or swap the motor..cause i know the timing is messed up but i did a tune up and now the check engine light went away but theres still a tick and a slight knock

  • The motor and trans cost me $420 and about another $500 in parts to make everything work. Could be more or less in your case. Planing another swap right now, will cost about $450 to freshen up the motor, but I don't have a car yet to put it into.

    You can find 307's dirt cheap in running condition on Craigslist

  • haha at first i thought in the begining that that was the engine sound... like the lawn mower or something... it was funny

  • HA HA yeah, at first I was pissed that the ground crew was mowing the lawn, but after I put the video on the computer I thought it sounded funny, like it was sitting next to a Civic revving it's motor LOL

  • nice car thats sad it was totaled

  • Thanks, on both comments. I'm still sad about it too
